WordPress as a Magazine

Posted by Ryan

WordPress is slowly but surely breaking out of the personal blogging mold. I’m proud to introduce a new series here at Theme Playground called WordPress as a Magazine, which is going to deal with just that issue. How can WordPress handle a multi–person blog with lots of regular content? As publications move online, what’s the best way to handle the transition? What are the best magazine themes for WordPress?

Magazine Themes

The Best WordPress Magazine Themes Available

This first massive post profiled a collection of the best magazine style themes that the WordPress community has to offer. Not all are free themes, but all are quality in some form or another.

(More) WordPress Magazine Themes

Apparently that first list wasn’t enough! Based on visitor feedback and another theme release over the weekend, another post was necessary to contain them all.

Keep Watchin’

We’ll be spending the next week or so covering this issue, and hopefully creating some useful content for the WordPress community. This post will be used as a place to collect all of the posts in this series, and hopefully by the end we’ll have quite a resource.

Be sure you’re subscribed to our feed so you won’t miss a single day!

  1. For me the most important thing about multi-blogs is author authority. When posting pages or posts it is simple to restrict authors to editing their own posts and pages but can you set the blog up so they can see only their own posts or pages? What about plugins? Particularly galleries. How do you stop another author deleting pictures from their galleries or again just show the pictures they upload.
Looking forward to the coverage of the above if it is planned.

  2. I think it would be really interesting if someone conducted a pool among blog readers (read: not authors) about which layout they prefer. As a ‘blogger’ I prefer to present my work in a magazine layout, it makes me feel like I’m packaging it in a way that is respectful, and less seedy than the ever scrolling default layout, but does the reader prefer this? Is it simpler for them to have the regular blog?

    Gute Wordpress Themes
